Padang City (30/08): Concept Development Conference and Initial Planning Conference (IPC/CDC) ends with some of important results. This activity is as a series of Megathrust Mentawai Disaster Relief Exercise (MM DiREx) which will be hosted by the National Disaster Management Agency ( BNPB ) in March 2014 in West Sumatra. BNPB Head of Education and Training Center, Wisnu Widjaja closes the conference on Friday (30/08) at Hotel Pangeran Beach, Padang CIty.
Implementation of CDC and IPC aims to enrich the basic concepts of Command Post Exercise (CPX), Field Training Exercise (FTX) and Humanitarian Civil Action (HCA). This event activity is divided into some interagency working group discussions and having field trips in Padang and Mentawai.
Potential locations for the implementation of CPX, FTX and HCA have been identified in the field visit. Meanwhile, another achievement of this conference are the identification of training materials, facilities and things to be prepared/provided, also a common understanding among the participants on the event in 2014.
Implementation of MM DiREx 2014 not only to be followed by the all actors of West Sumatra disaster management, but also to mobilize National resources and National & International partners. International partners who will be involved are all ASEAN member countries, 8 EAS Non-ASEAN countries (China, USA, Russia, Japan, Korea, India, Australia & New Zealand), as well as International organizations such as the AHA Center, IFRC, UN, AIFDR&AUSAID, USAID and JICA.
Associated with the involvement of international partners, this MM DiREx event can test a few things, such as early warning mechanisms, civil military operation and emergency response from the International community. At the end of the closing remarks, Wisnu Widjaja gives appreciation and gratitude for the participation of all who provide valuable input to the implementation of MM DiREx 2014.
The conference was attended by 10 delegates from 7 countries, 7 international organizations, and also from Indonesia. The participants were from the Government of Indonesia, Government of West Sumatra Province, Mentawai local government, Indonesian National Armed Forces, Indonesian National Police, and all relevant ministries and institutions.
