October is celebrated as Memorial Months for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) by the disaster management actors in Indonesia. October always is a month where there are some kinds of activities related with Disaster Risk Reduction. This 2013 Disaster Risk Reduction memorial month will be held in the Mataram City and surrounding, West Nusa Tenggara Province on 7-11 October 2013. In order to discuss the final preparations for the event, the Committee Coordination Meeting of PRB Memorial Month 2013 was held in the Plaza Hotel Lombok, Mataram with more than 80 people attended from the central Organizer and local NTB committee.

Deputy National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) for Prevention and Preparedness, Ir. Dody Ruswandi, MSCE in his speech at the opening said, “In Commemoration PRB Month we will show what is the activities on preparedness, prevention and mitigation of disasters. It must be nourished so that disasters can be a separate public policy areas such as education and health.”

Dody Ruswandi continued that Indonesia is a great country because it has a very wide area and a large number of people. But our country is located in a highly prone region disasters often struck. The government has a very big concern for disaster relief with a proven amount of budget, although most are in the form of ready-made funds. Government efforts in tackling disasters also got great attention from the international community that had been proven by the many international awards for Indonesia achievement for disaster relief.

Dody Ruswandi emphasized that the purpose of disaster management is to save more. Thus it will eventually give birth to disaster resilient communities and then become disaster resilient country at the next step. Of course in the disaster relief efforts involving all related parties, both governments at the central, provincial, district / city, community, business, non-government agencies, universities, and others.

Chief Executive of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) NTB province, Ir. Magma Wedha Ardhi, MT in his speech said, “The government of the province thanked for having chosen as the venue for the Summit commemoration of PRB Month. The presence of all parties in this event will be very meaningful for development in NTB. ”

Wedha Magema Ardi asked three important questions: 1) how the disaster instilled from an early age? 2) How to improve the synchronization and coordination over the disaster management actors? And 3) how all stakeholders have disaster management mindset and act the same?

This DRR memorial month implementation is under the coordination of the Directorate of Disaster Risk Reduction BNPB. PRB BNPB director, Lili Kurniawan exposes Top events framework of Commemoration DRR Month 2013,“ PRB Month Summit will be held for five days from 7 to 11 October 2013 in Mataram and surrounding, West Nusa Tenggara Province. The theme is Disaster Risk Reduction, Investing for Resilience Nation. There are 12 activities that have been planned and is expected to reach 3,000 participants from all over Indonesia BPBDs (provincial and district / city), DRR Forum, Forum PT for DRR, and other DRR actors. Participants from BPBDs will consist of five people. For this event the committee consists of two committees, namely the central committee composed of BNPB, the Interior Ministry and the National Platform (Planas PRB) which is coordinated by BNPB and regional committee composed of regional work units (on education) is coordinated by the NTB BPBDs .

Lili Kurniawan continued that the purpose of this activity is 1) Build awareness with DRR in Indonesia, 2) Establish and develop a network of communication between DRR actors in Indonesia, and 3) In particular, as the PRB synergize development investment in areas that can be used as a learning center with for DRR actors in Indonesia.

Twelfth activities in the above event is the exhibition and stage DRR, disaster research seminars, competitions PRB, book review, mangrove planting, parade / rally PRB, PRB socialization, health charity, mitigation structures, training preparedness, DRR Forum meeting in Indonesia and self evacuation.

Stage in the Exhibition and PRB will be displayed equipment, tools, posters, photographs, books, culinary booths, crafts and other NTB related to DRR activities as well as local arts and popular DRR related themes. Disaster Research Seminar will discuss the results of 12 colleges that have cooperated with the making BNPB Masterplan Hazards in Indonesia. Those twelve college are ITB (earthquakes), Unsyiah (tsunami), UPN Veteran Yogyakarta (volcano), GMU (landslides), Undip (flooding), Univ. Udayana (drought), UI (extreme weather), Unand (extreme waves), IPB (forest fire), UNHAS (flash floods), Airlangga University (epidemics and outbreaks of disease), and ITS (industrial accidents).

There are nine activities in the PRB competition, namely high school Drama, BPBDs Quiz, First Aid Competition SLPT and high school, elementary and junior Poster Contest, Contest Make a junior Wall Magazines, Drawing Competition grade levels 3-6, level Coloring Contest kindergarten and first grade 1-2, BPBDs Competition Mapping, and Rally Photo Contest PRB. The participant in this PRB competitions were students from kindergarten, elementary, junior high, high school, and BPBDs and General. The very interesting thing in this activity is that there is a Quiz Contest which participated by BPBDs staffs, and possibly there are 33 BPBDs teams that will compete.

In the course of the PRB March/Rally will be displayed vehicles commonly used in disaster management activities, such as rescue units, Mobile kitchen units, ambulance, bike trail, vehicle automotive organizations, and others.

On the Preparedness Training activities will be followed by the participants and teachers throughout Indonesia BPBDs in NTB. These activities had the full support of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) and Save The Children. The theme of “Climate Change Adaptation and DRR” (NCCC) and “Strengthening the Capacity of Religious Leaders and Teachers in overcoming Disaster ‘(Save The Children).

Events in Mataram will also present DRR Forum in Indonesia, especially those areas that have been formed Forums PRB. Forum theme of a meeting PRB is “Yogyakarta Declaration Implementation Strategy”.
