For the umpteenth time Lokon Volcano located in Tomohon, North Sulawesi erupted. On Monday (09.09.2013) 06.30 pm, Mount Lokon erupted and catapult volcanic material up to an altitude of about 1,500 meters from the crater of Lokon Tompaluan. The Eruption leads north to to Pineleng, Tateli, and Tanawangko village. Material was catapult out of the crater. The People heard the very loud eruption sound in some areas in Minahasa within 10 miles.
Communities around Mount Lokon ran out of their houses just to watch the eruption. The people in the area are used to hear such loud eruption sound because the occurrences of Mount Lokon eruption are very often. They did not evacuate. For them, those eruptions as happened this morning are a blessing, because the land in Tomohon will be fertile and can affect in increasing agricultural productivity.
Mount Lokon remain alert status at (level III). Since announced to be Standby since July 24, 2011 until now, Lokon has erupted dozens of times. PVMBG still set a radius of 2.5 km for the people to not doing activities around the crater Tompaluan. BPBDs Tomohon and BPBDs North Sulawesi continue to disseminate to the public. Lokon Volcano eruption contingency plans have also been prepared.
