An earthquake hit Gorontalo on 10/12/2013 at 21:30 pm. Based on the observation of BMKG, the earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitudes at a depth of 54 km. The epicenter was on land located at 20 km Northwest Boalemo-Gorontalo, or 45 km southwest of North Gorontalo. Meanwhile, according to the USGS (United States Geological agency) an earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitude at a depth of 100.4 km. The quake’s epicenter was on land, 31 miles northwest of Tilamuta, Kab. Boalemo. Earthquake poses no tsunami potential. Based on the map of the quake (shake map), the seismic intensity was III-IV MMI (light). The earthquake sourced from Gorontalo Fault. This fault extends from the northwest to the southeast of the Sulawesi Sea through the territorial waters of the Gulf of Gorontalo to Tomini. BNPB post has confirmed the condition of the impact of the earthquake in the area. Earthquake felt strong enough for about 5 seconds in Mohungo village, district. Tilamuta Kab. Boalemo, Gorontalo. The communities were panic and running out of the house. While in the city of Gorontalo, the earthquake felt weak about 6 seconds. BPBD Gorontalo currently collecting data on Boalemo area. There has been no report of the damage from the quake. Although the epicenter was on land, its depth makes the impact of the earthquake causing no damage.
